VMIF 2014

The first edition of the Verbier Mobility Investment Forum was held on 5 December 2014 at the W hotel in Verbier and gathered more than 50 participants, investors, technology providers, operators and decision makers involved in mobility and sustainable mobility.

This expert group exuded optimism and positive energy and demonstrated great confidence in the ability of new technologies to make sustainable mobility happen, in particular with respect to electric vehicles, car sharing and ride sharing.

It was a very full day and well targeted programme which fuelled intense discussions, in particular with respect to the development of electrical mobility and the evolution of mobility behaviours and practices.

The interactive workshop held in the afternoon proved a very fertile ground and led to the emergence of a range of proposals for local projects in sustainable mobility and enabling measures.

Last but not least, the intimate format and the glorious surroundings, with the Valais mountains as a backdrop, helped forge many fruitful relations. This pioneering day fostered new collaborations and new friendships.

The first edition of the VMIF fulfilled its triple mission, initiating new thinking, pioneering projects and expanding relationships !

Some testimonials from the participants pay tribute to this success.

The quality of speakers was remarkable. The participationof entrepreneurs prevented us from getting lost in theory” — Eloi Rossier, President of the Commune de Bagnes “The event attracted high quality speakers. Furthermore, the interactive workshopbenefited vastly from the extensive experience and the diverse backgrounds of the participants to identify tangible actions” — Alexander Banz, Partner, Niton Capital

Three of the projects generated by the interactive workshop were selected as prioritiesin the short term :

1. Launch a baseline quantitative mobility study to measure mobility flows and validate the user segmentation, in order to underpin the design of mobility projects and enable the measurement of their future impact against such base line, in the Verbier area;

2.Create a shared vision around sustainable mobility between public and private actors in Val de Bagnes and beyond, and educate and communicate around this vision;

3. Design a ‘Last Mile‘Project to lift the last mile constraint which often dictates the use of private cars from origin to destination.

We are delighted to confirm that these three projects are being implemented.

The VMIF 2014 team extends its warmest thanks to all the speakers and participants in the VMIF 2014.
